NSFAS = your education’s financial sidekick. Here’s what it covers:

  • 📘 Tuition Fees: 100% paid
  • 🏠 Accommodation: University or TVET-approved residences
  • 🍛 Living Allowance: R1,650/month
  • 🚌 Transport: Up to R7,500/year if you live off-campus (within 40km)
  • 📚 Books & Learning Materials: R5,200/year
  • 🧴 Personal Care: R3,167/year for TVET day students
  • Disability Allowance: Assistive devices, support workers & transport

You’re eligible if you meet all of these:

  • 🇿🇦 South African citizen or permanent resident
  • 💸 Household income below R350,000/year (or R600,000 for students with disabilities)
  • 🏫 Studying at a public university or TVET college
  • 📈 First-time undergraduate qualification
  • 📚 Must show potential to pass and progress academically

🎉 On SASSA? You're auto-qualified and don’t need to submit income proof!

  2. 🆔 Register a MyNSFAS account
  3. 📝 Fill in your details and upload your documents

📄 Required Documents:

  • ✔️ Your certified ID + your parents’ or guardians’ IDs
  • ✔️ Proof of income (unless you're on SASSA)
  • ✔️ Consent form (available on NSFAS site)
  • ✔️ Supporting docs for orphans, disabled learners, or vulnerable students
  • 🗓️ Applications Open: 1 September 2025
  • Applications Close: 31 January 2026
  • 🏫 TVET Students: Same timeframe including 1st trimester

⚠️ Don’t wait! Applications outside this period won’t be accepted. Apply early to avoid stress.

💰 NSFAS pays straight into your NSFAS-linked bank account:

  • 🧾 Living Allowance: Paid monthly
  • 🚐 Transport: Paid monthly if you live nearby
  • 📚 Books & Devices: Paid in a lump sum

⏳ You have 30 days to appeal after rejection.

  2. 📄 Check your rejection reason
  3. 📝 Click “Appeal” and upload your motivation and documents

📎 Common documents for appeal:

  • 📉 UIF proof or retrenchment letter (if income dropped)
  • 🕊️ Death certificate of a parent/guardian
  • 🏥 Medical report (if academic performance was impacted)
